A traditional barn can be of any size and shape. It is usually made of wood, with a post and beam construction. The usual uses to which it is put include being used as a shed for your horses, livestock, a place for indulging in your hobby, as a workshop or as a garage. If you have the interest and armed with a construction kit, you can easily build traditional barns yourself.

The origins of traditional barns are in Europe, and they make their appearance in America with the first Europeans who came to this land. Changes had to be made in the construction of the traditional barns due to the change in climatic conditions, as well as the availability of the raw materials, and this led to the development of the American barns. The barns were usually made of lumber sawn from the timber on the land. In places were stones were available in plenty and cheaply, stone barns were also built. These early barns were mainly used for storing grains, harvested crops, and agricultural tools as well as for taking care of domestic animals.
